artfully crafting food and farm stories through thoughtful, creative communications solutions

During my time spent on small farms in New England, I've become familiar with both the seasonal and business demands required of growers. I've also gained insight into the unique stories of individual farms and their owners. Yet, communications and marketing efforts often take a backseat to the pressing and present needs of the farm. This is where I come in: Let me help you craft your story.

My experience as a journalist, blogger, photographer, and farmworker coupled with my academic background in sustainable food systems and nonprofit communications has made one concept apparent: Farms and small, local businesses and non-profits do not conform to standard notions of growth.

In order to run a truly sustainable business, farmers and small business owners must not only put forth high quality products but do so in an aesthetically pleasing, meaningful manner that connects with consumers on a deeper level.

When Alex started working for us, our farm was struggling to fill our CSA. Even though we had been around longer than any of the other local CSAs, it was hard to get the word out, in an economically viable way. Alex helped us identify our target demographic and develop ways to efficiently market our farm to those people. Our CSA filled up in no time. She also created and wrote our farm blog, which we got nothing but compliments on. It was both educational and reflective.

There’s almost nothing Alex can’t do! She revamped our website beautifully, by combining her sharp eye for design with her web-based knowledge. Alex is easy to work with ... competent, calm, and not afraid to dig in and work out those nitty gritty details that give clarity to one’s vision and mission. She puts her all into whatever she works on. We look forward to working with Alex again in the near future.
