The Greenhorns

This is so inspiring!! Finally, a movie about young farmers and what it means to be one...

"The Greenhorns" is a forthcoming documentary from the same guys who brought us "King Corn" about a new breed of eager young people who want to farm and are doing so already across the country as well as the challenges they face (access to land, funding, problems with land-grant colleges and their methods, etc.)

I heard about the film after reading an article in Grist, about the Greenhorns founder Severine von Tscharner Fleming. Severine is herself a farmer and will be working at The Hickories, a farm in Ridgefield, Conn., with Dina Brewster. I got the chance to hear Brewster speak at the 2010 NOFA Conference at her workshop on CSAs; she seems like the perfect resource for young farmers.

Check out this clip from the film (it saves time from reading my explanation...)

If you're just as thrilled as I am with the prospects of this documentary, check out The Greenhorns Web site. There's a wealth of resources, including a link to their blog and radio show/podcast. This is truly a worthwhile cause - support the film and The Greenhorns.
