In this article by the New York Times, a group of more than 70 individuals - from children to adults - got an introduction to vermicomposting. They learned how to integrate composting into their urban spaces, either apartments and offices, and the workshop allowed rumors to be dispelled about worms at work (i.e. the bin smells, the worms try to escape, etc.)
As someone who has a worm bin in her kitchen, this is a really easy way for anyone, regardless of his or her housing arrangements, to take organic matter out of the waste stream.
